“超快充技术代表着用户的需求,由用户决定技术的走向,最终会发展得非常快。它已经成为了一种消费趋势,让用户体会到科技的进步。”在裴锋看来,“超快充天然就是和更高科技、更高端的产品、更高端的体验相结合,它是一种个人感受。超快充的发展速度跟新能源汽车用户渗透率的发展曲线一样,一旦超过5%的拐点,3-5年就会过半。”With the popularization of electric vehicles entering the deep water zone, how to solve energy replenishment anxiety has become a core challenge for car companies. Supercharging has become a major path for car companies to combat energy anxiety and boost sales of pure electric vehicles.
Entering 2025, 5C, 6C, and even 10C ultra fast charging technologies will begin to be introduced to the market and cause a lot of discussion within the industry. For consumers, the beautiful vision of "charging as fast as refueling" is gradually becoming a reality.
In response to the current development of ultra fast charging, during the China Electric Vehicle Hundred People Forum (2025), Pei Feng, President of Juwan Technology Research, said in an interview with GAC Motor, "According to our statistics, the biggest concern for users when purchasing electric vehicles is energy replenishment anxiety, that is, the issue of charging convenience. Supercharging is a must-have for the majority of users, and this demand has always existed
Super fast charging is not a privilege for high-end car models
At present, many automakers are gradually launching ultra fast charging models, such as Xiaopeng, Chuanfan, BYD, HarmonyOS, etc.
For example, the Zunjie S800 model comes with two versions of the Giant Whale battery: the extended range version and the pure electric version. The extended range version of the 6C high-voltage extended range battery pack has a capacity of 65kWh and can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 10.5 minutes. The pure electric version of the 5C pure electric battery pack has a capacity of 97kWh and can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 12 minutes.
On March 17th, BYD held a press conference called "Megawatt Flash Charging, Same Speed of Oil and Electricity", which demonstrated the Han L charging from 7% to 62% in just 5 minutes. BYD Group Chairman and President Wang Chuanfu announced that BYD models equipped with the Super e-platform support 1000V voltage and 1000A current, achieving a charging power of 1 megawatt (1000kW) and a charging rate of 10C.
When describing the charging speed, C refers to the rate of charge and discharge of the battery, and 1C represents the current value used to discharge the battery from 100% to 0% in 1 hour. Without considering battery capacity (battery size), it can be simply understood that the larger the coefficient of C, the faster the charging speed.
Regarding the definition of ultra fast charging, Pei Feng said, "In 2018, the international community introduced the definition of XFC ultra fast charging. Charging time from 0% to 80% within 10 minutes is called ultra fast charging, 15 minutes is equivalent to 3C, and within 10 minutes is equivalent to 6C
It is reported that Juwan Technology Research Institute has launched a technology that can charge from 0% to 80% in less than 10 minutes in 2022, and has achieved mass production.
BYD launched a peak of 10C last Monday, with an average charge of 6.7C from 5% to 61%, which is comparable to the production battery speed launched by Juwan in 2022, but our range will be wider. We can achieve 0% to 80% in 7.5 minutes, "Pei Feng emphasized.
This year, Xiaopeng Motors' new G6 and G9 (configuration | inquiry) are also equipped with 5C ultra fast charging AI batteries as standard, which is the first time in the industry that 5C ultra fast charging technology has been brought into the 200000 yuan price range.
Pei Feng mentioned, "With the increasing popularity of OEMs and infrastructure, ultra fast charging will quickly penetrate every user end, and this year will also usher in its explosive period, marked by the release of BYD's technology and products. Currently, we are entering an era of equal rights for ultra fast charging technology. It is not unique to high-end models, but will also be standard for ordinary mid-range or low-end models, and everyone can enjoy it
Super fast charging is popular, two problems need to be solved
What kind of problems need to be solved next for the popularization of ultra fast charging? Pei Feng mentioned two points: first, the popularization of ultra fast charging piles on the infrastructure side. The second is to provide sufficient high-quality ultra fast charging power batteries on the supply side.
It is reported that the country established hardware standards for ultra fast charging in September 2023 and software standards in December 2024. In 2024, Huawei entered the field of ultra fast charging, greatly promoting the development of its ecosystem. Juwan Technology Research also established the Electric Vehicle Industry Rapid Charging Alliance in 2022, promoting the construction of the entire ecosystem. Therefore, the popularization of ultra fast charging piles on the infrastructure side will become a key factor affecting the popularization of ultra fast charging.
Compared with ordinary power batteries, the structure and process of ultra fast charging batteries are different. Due to the fact that the previous power battery production capacity was only ordinary power battery production capacity, how to build new ultra fast charging capacity or transform the original ordinary power battery production capacity, and provide sufficient high-quality ultra fast charging power battery products on the supply side, has become another key factor.
In addition, Pei Feng also mentioned the price. Currently, the ultra fast charging batteries in Juwan are only 5% to 10% more expensive than ordinary batteries. If the cost is too high, it does not meet the market demand, "said Pei Feng. The development plan for new energy vehicles has a cost plan for ultra fast charging batteries that is twice as expensive as ordinary fast charging batteries. But if it is twice as expensive, its popularity speed will not be as fast. Today, Juwan has already achieved a price increase of only 5%, so I believe the popularity speed will continue to increase.
At present, with Huawei entering the ultra fast charging ecosystem, ultra fast charging models such as Xiaopeng, Zunjie, Chuanfan, BYD, etc. have been released one after another, and more and more users are feeling the convenience brought by ultra fast charging. In the C-end market of passenger cars, the experience brought by ultra fast charging to users is very intuitive: it used to take 1 hour to charge, but now it can be done in 10 minutes.
Ultra fast charging technology represents the needs of users, and the direction of technology is determined by users. It will eventually develop very quickly. It has become a consumer trend, allowing users to experience technological progress. "In Pei Feng's view," Ultra fast charging is naturally combined with higher technology, higher end products, and higher end experiences. It is a personal experience. The development speed of ultra fast charging is the same as the development curve of new energy vehicle user penetration rate. Once it exceeds the inflection point of 5%, it will exceed half in 3-5 years。
